Services

Forest View Volunteer Rescue Squad has a rich tradition of community service. Our reach in the community goes above and beyond providing emergent and non-emergent 911 care. Members of our community are assisted with cpr training bhy our members, donate blood at our Virginia Blood Services donation days at our stations, and receive family portraits through our Picture Project Fundraising Annual Event. See more on these exciting community service offerings below.

Blood Drives

Within one year of its 1974 founding at the direction of the Richmond Academy of Medicine, Richmond Metropolitan Blood Service - now Virginia Blood Services (VBS) - took Richmond from a haphazard system of paid and volunteer blood sources to an all volunteer blood supply. See www.vablood.com for more info.

Safe Place

Safe Place is the first step to help for any youth in crisis or at risk. This community collaboration program, operated by youth shelters or youth serving agencies make it possible for any youth to access help at locations including fast food restaurants, convenience stores, fire and rescue stations, libraries and city buses which display the Safe Place sign. Youth can easily find help at Safe Place sites in their own neighborhood whenever they need it. Safe Place connects youth to immediate help and safety and offers supportive services to both youth and their families. Forest view is a nationally registered safe place. The Picture Project

The Auxiliary of Forest View has been conducting a very successful fund raising project for the past 20 years. This project begins in the early spring and runs through the late spring. It involves neighborhood door-to-door canvass asking for donations to the squad. Each household making a contribution receives a certificate for a free family portrait. The pictures are taken at our squad building at 8008 Midlothian Turnpike and additional pictures are available to purchase. The profits from this project have paid off the mortgages on Station 1 and Station 3. In addition, funds were used to purchase ambulances, ALS & BLS equipment, a First Responder Vehicle and a Chief’s car and other items not covered in the squad’s annual budget.
